A regular wall outlet adds about 3 miles of range per hour. A Level 2 charger adds 25 to 40. That is the whole upgrade.

KNOW THIS

Code requires a dedicated 240V circuit. Sharing with the dryer is not an option, and an extension cord is never one.

SKIP IT

The most expensive charger on the shelf. Mid-range units charge just as fast, the circuit sets the speed limit, not the badge.

SKIP IT

Oversizing beyond what your car can accept. A 48-amp charger on a car that takes 32 amps buys you nothing.

WORTH IT

A WiFi charger plus a time-of-use plan. Overnight charging works out to roughly a dollar-a-gallon equivalent.
